Champions League 2012

The top football clubs in Europe meet in the Champions League. Real Madrid being the most successful team so far, followed by AC Milan. Of course the matches of the British teams Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are always exciting. The final of the competition is the most watched annual sporting event worldwide, drawing just over 100 million television viewers. This year, the Final will be held on May 19th 2012 in the Allianz Arena in Munich - a great place for this prestigious match.

European Football Championship 2012 Poland/Ukraine

Contested every four years, the European Championship has been showcasing the continent's top talent. The Euro 2012 will be hosted by the neighbouring countries Poland and Ukraine from June 8 to July 1, 2012. The Polish matches will be held in Gdansk, Poznan, Wroclaw and Warsaw, while teams in Ukraine will face each other in Lviv, Kiev, Kharkiv and Donetsk. The Opening Match is played in Warsaw, the Final in Kiev.

Municipal Arena Gdansk
40,000 seats. The stadium is located in Gdansk's Letnica neighbourhood close to the waterfront and construction started in 2008. The exterior is designed to resemble amber, which has long been extracted along the Baltic coast.

Municipal Stadium Poznan
42,000 seats. Close to the city's airport, the Municipal Stadium opened in 1980 and is renowned in Poland for its excellent atmosphere. Renovation work began in 2003 and when concluded, the stadium will be the biggest club ground in the country with fully covered stands.

Municipal Stadium Wrozclaw
40,000 seats. Constructed by the Sleza river and connected to the city centre by a new tram line, the stadium's shape resembles a Chinese lantern. It has been built as part of a complex including offices, conference halls, a fitness centre, casino and the museum of local favourites Slask.

National Stadium Warsaw
50,000 seats. Located on the banks of the Vistula, the National Stadium is on the site of the old Tenth Anniversary Stadium. Future home of the Poland national team, its facade resembles a waving Polish flag.

New Lviv Stadium
35,000 seats. Based on the UEFA EURO 2008 arena at Klagenfurt, the foundations in this area of parkland on the outskirts of the city were laid in February 2009.

Olympic Stadium Kyiv
60,000 seats. UEFA EURO 2012's biggest venue is undergoing a full makeover for the finals, including a new transparent roof.

Metalist Stadium
35,000 seats. Built in 1926, Metalist's home ground has received several facelifts down the decades - the latest creating the multipurpose Metalist City complex, raising its capacity to over 40,000 in anticipation of the 2012 European showpiece. Locals call it the Spider Arena as the roof pillars are shaped like the legs of an arachnid.

Donbass Arena Donetsk
50,000 seats. Opened in August 2009, this ultra-modern stadium, funded by Shakhtar's wealthy owner Rinat Akhmetov, features an illuminated exterior and infrared heating system. Situated in central Donetsk, at night it lights up the huge fountain built beside it, complete with 30-tonne football, and the surrounding parkland.
